I get asked this question all the time when I introduce myself to someone and they ask me what a mom blogger is, which I simply reply…
A mom bloggers is a mom who enjoys writing about the products she uses every day, sharing her views with readers, engaging with others both online and in the community, sharing her life raising her children and someone who can make a difference.
But the question has been asked ~ Does Anyone Really Take Mom Bloggers Seriously?
They should.
Mom Bloggers are bountiful and beautiful and we run in circles by the millions. Some of us share just our family life, raising kids with disabilities, sharing our own unique trials and tribulations, connecting with others who are in the same boat as us.
Other share their views on products they use, doing product reviews for companies, openly and honestly. They help businesses engage with consumers in a way that is trust-worthy and honorable.
Mom Bloggers are diverse, come from different backgrounds, upbringings, race, religions, places on this planet, financial categories and they are also: doctors, lawyers, stay at home moms, business owners, marketing developers, web designers, teachers, dancers, writers, painters.
Mom Bloggers are Unique.
But How are they Making a Difference? Why Do Mom Bloggers Have So Much Influence?
Despite the fact that there are so many mommy bloggers, I have to admit that I originally found it hard to take them seriously. However, I have a colleague whose wife regularly blogs about a reality TV show and has thousands of visitors to her blog every week; and earlier today, Time.com did a story about how mommy bloggers are impacting toy sales this season. What’s more, I personally know of a small cosmetic company that is using a mommy blogger network to share product information, get feedback and promote his line of cosmetics. Whether or not your organization takes mommy bloggers (or social media generally) seriously, ignoring the power of this new metaphor for collaborating and learning might be a big mistake. ~ Ti Kiisel Forbes
Mom Bloggers are out there, buying the groceries for the home, paying the bills, looking at the new cars, toys, clothing, keeping up to date on what’s hot and what’s not, what’s healthy for you and what should go in the trash. They are the consumers. So why doesn’t it make sense they are the ones with enough power to influence the trends in marketing products?
The power of Mom Bloggers comes from doing one thing… something all moms are good at … COMMUNICATING!
With Social Media becoming the biggest form of communication since Facebook started. Mom Bloggers are using Social Media to not only talk about what is important to them, but what isn’t.
Pinterest, Twitter, Google Plus, Linkedin, Four Square. Moms are on the go and chatting live. At hockey practice, dance class, swimming lessons, in the kitchen while cooking supper. Moms are always thinking, always trying to learn new ways to protect their families, spend less money, find products that work them and when they do. Moms can’t wait to share that news with others. So it only makes sense PR Firms, Businesses and Brands are reaching out to Mom Bloggers to make use of their untapped resources.
It’s not just about what moms write about online. It’s about what they think.
If I come across a product I love, I will post it on Facebook, share it on my blog, pin it, tag it and so on. I love sharing things with my friends and friends of friends. I love talking about things that make life easier, new products I’ve discovered that improve my kids education, clothe them in style but with an affordable price tag, products that make every day use more environmentally friendly.
Moms talk about what’s important to them, and consumers are listening.
Mommy bloggers are successfully leveraging social media to collaborate and communicate about the products they use, what’s happening within their families and what they’re interested in. They share their blogs via Facebook and Twitter expanding their reach to a broader network of friends and friends of friends, creating an audience of people interested in what they have to say. I can’t help but see how this type of natural-feeling collaboration has value within the enterprise. says Ti
And he’s right. Mom bloggers use the Internet and their blogs to effectively make a difference not just for themselves but for others. They utilize the power Social Media offers to reach others and share their viewpoints.
So What Do Mom Bloggers Really Do?
I guess if you were to sum it up. Mom Bloggers are communication Liasons, bridging the gap between corporate businesses, small businesses and product creators and consumers (like themselves) so that voices are heard, products are improved upon, shared and used.
Through word of mouth marketing – Mom Bloggers take the reigns and push the pony down the hill and across the river, demanding the best of the best ~ for everyone.
Because let’s face it. The almighty dollar doesn’t go as far as it should anymore, and products that are bought and sold is serious business. It’s Big business.
Mom Bloggers look out for us. They have our best interests at heart for our children and our families. They are Brand Ambassadors. They are our friends, our advisers, our mentors on product relations, family relationships and life.
